Mawael Environmental Consultancy, in collaboration with Seiche Ltd. (Marine Acoustic Solutions, UK), conducted advanced underwater noise modelling for the proposed Doha Causeway Project to evaluate the propagation of underwater sound generated during construction and operation. The assessment examined underwater noise associated with dredging, island reclamation, piling activities, bridge construction, and operational scenarios. Where project-specific acoustic measurements were unavailable, representative source levels from comparable international projects were adopted following recognized acoustic assessment methodologies. The study evaluated the hearing sensitivity and potential behavioural and injury thresholds of marine mammals, fish, and sea turtles, while applying peer-reviewed underwater sound propagation models that incorporated bathymetry, seabed characteristics, geometric spreading, and sound absorption. The outputs provided scientifically robust predictions of underwater noise exposure, supporting environmental impact assessment, mitigation planning, and environmentally responsible marine infrastructure development.
