Underwater Noise Baseline Data Assessment for Doha Causeway

Baseline underwater noise assessment supporting the Doha Causeway project through acoustic data processing, quality control, and interpretation of marine environmental conditions.

Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy, as a subcontractor to Wataniya Environmental Services (WES), conducted the baseline assessment and interpretation of underwater acoustic monitoring data collected for the Doha Causeway Project. The assignment involved processing approximately 48-hour underwater recordings captured using RTSYS acoustic recorder systems, including quality assurance, hydrophone sensitivity verification, temporal and spectral analysis, signal screening, and comprehensive post-processing of raw waveform data. Acoustic datasets were organized into dedicated databases and analyzed using ESP3 open-source software and customized MATLAB processing routines to ensure consistent interpretation of underwater sound conditions. The resulting baseline assessment established a robust acoustic reference for future environmental impact assessments and underwater noise modelling associated with the Doha Causeway development.
