Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy conducted a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the North Western Coast Tourism Development Plans on behalf of Environics. The study evaluated environmental and social risks associated with tourism development along approximately 300 km of Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline, including Omayed Protected Area. The assignment followed four phases: inception, scoping, sustainability assessment, and preparation of the final SEA report. The assessment examined tourism development alongside related sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, agriculture, and urban development, identifying potential impacts on coastal ecosystems and biodiversity. Based on the findings, alternative development strategies and mitigation measures were developed to support sustainable tourism while protecting natural resources. Extensive field visits and stakeholder consultations ensured that environmental, social, and economic considerations were fully integrated into the final planning recommendations.
