Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Oman Blue Carbon Project

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment supporting one of the Middle East's largest blue carbon restoration initiatives through mangrove restoration, ecosystem conservation, carbon sequestration assessment, and environmental management planning.

Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy prepared the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Oman Blue Carbon Project on behalf of Value Network Ventures, supporting one of the largest blue carbon ecosystem restoration initiatives in the Middle East. Located within Al Wusta Governorate, the project focuses on restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems across more than 2,600 hectares during the initial phase, with long-term expansion exceeding 20,000 hectares. The assignment was undertaken in accordance with Omani environmental regulations, international best practices, and the UNDP Social and Environmental Standards. Mawael conducted comprehensive environmental baseline studies, blue carbon assessments, stakeholder engagement, biodiversity evaluations, environmental and social impact assessments, and developed Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs). The study assessed ecosystem services, climate change considerations, carbon sequestration potential, coastal resilience, and community impacts while supporting nature-based solutions that contribute to climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable coastal development.
