Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy supported the assessment of Egypt’s biodiversity monitoring systems under the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) initiative in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The assignment evaluated existing biodiversity monitoring systems, institutional arrangements, and environmental information frameworks to assess their alignment with Egypt’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The work included reviewing current monitoring mechanisms, identifying data gaps, assessing institutional and technical capacities, conducting stakeholder consultations, and developing Biodiversity Monitoring Action Plans to strengthen biodiversity indicator measurement, reporting, and national environmental governance. The project contributes to improving evidence-based conservation planning, biodiversity reporting, and implementation of Egypt’s international biodiversity commitments.
