Ornithology Survey for NEOM Windfarms – Spring 2025
Comprehensive ornithological survey supporting wind energy development through bird migration monitoring, biodiversity assessment, and collision risk evaluation in NEOM.

Project Scope
Mawael Environmental Consultancy conducted a comprehensive ornithological survey during the Spring 2025 migration season to support the environmental planning of proposed wind energy developments in NEOM. The assignment included systematic field observations, radar-assisted migration monitoring, biodiversity surveys, and spatial analysis to identify migratory flyways, key bird species, nesting and feeding habitats, and environmentally sensitive locations. Collision risk assessments evaluated the potential impacts of wind turbine infrastructure on migratory and resident bird populations, while sensitivity mapping supported informed site selection and project planning. Based on the findings, practical mitigation measures were developed, including turbine micro-siting recommendations, operational curtailment during peak migration periods, and habitat management measures to minimize biodiversity impacts while supporting the sustainable expansion of renewable energy projects.
