Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy prepared the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the Biodiversity Workstream of the Green Sharm El Sheikh Programme. The assignment assessed environmental and social impacts associated with biodiversity conservation interventions and large-scale infrastructure activities while ensuring compliance with Egyptian environmental legislation and the UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES). The study addressed biodiversity protection, stakeholder engagement, environmental and social risk assessment, contractor management requirements, and mitigation measures. It also evaluated potential impacts on protected areas, coral reef ecosystems, tourism activities, local livelihoods, and climate-related pressures, including desalination brine discharge. Where applicable, the assignment incorporated Livelihood Action Plans (LAP), Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), and Indigenous Peoples considerations to establish a comprehensive environmental and social management framework supporting sustainable implementation of the programme.
