Strengthening Protected Area Systems and Their Management and Establishing a New Marine Protected Area in the Red Sea
Strengthening protected area management in Egypt’s Southern Red Sea through the development of management plans, marine baseline studies, and the establishment of a new Marine Protected Area to support biodiversity conservation and sustainable management.

Project Scope
Mawael Environmental Consultancy contributed to strengthening protected area systems in Egypt’s Southern Red Sea through the establishment of a new Marine Protected Area (MPA) and the enhancement of protected area management. The assignment included environmental and social baseline studies, preparation of a comprehensive management plan for the new MPA, development of communication materials, and marine baseline assessments for Wadi El Gemal Protected Area. The project also included preparing the management plan for Nabq Protected Area based on field surveys, IUCN guidelines, international best practices, and local environmental conditions. The overall objective was to improve biodiversity conservation, strengthen protected area governance, and support the sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems.
