Project Scope

Mawael Environmental Consultancy prepared the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the proposed civil works at Gharqana Village in South Sinai. The assignment assessed potential environmental and social impacts associated with the construction and operation of new housing designed for the local Bedouin community while ensuring full compliance with Egyptian environmental regulations and the UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES). The study evaluated biodiversity, habitat sensitivity, labor conditions, community health and safety, cultural heritage, gender considerations, and stakeholder interests, together with the environmental implications of relocating housing inland while maintaining community cohesion and access to natural resources. The project also developed mitigation measures, environmental and social management procedures, monitoring requirements, and community engagement mechanisms to support sustainable implementation and strengthen environmental protection, social resilience, and long-term community well-being.
